Achievements

a) Project/Surney/Studies Conducted/Competed

As per function of Dam Safety Council stated above , Dam Safety Council review the PC-II/Feasibility Study Reports and PC-I/Cost Estimates of

dam projects being implemented by the four provinces and federal line agencies. The following PC-Is/PC-II have been technically scrutinized by

Dam Safety Council since 2008 and comments were offered to Ministry of Water and Power for further necessary action: MORE....

b) Future Plans (Projects in Pipeline)

Future Plans of the Dam Safety Council will be as follows:

  • The annual/periodic inspection of following major dams would be carried out by DSC during the calendar year 2012:
  • Mangla Dam
  • Tarbela Dam
  • Warsak Dam
  • Hub Dam
  • Simly Dam
  • Khanpur Dam
  • Chashma Barrage
  • Mirani Dam
  • Ghazi Barotha Hydero Power  Project
    • To review the design and plans of new dams and enhance the safety provision.
    • To review the plans and specifications for enlargement, modification, major repair, revival or otherwise of Dams/Reservoirs.
    • To supply technical data and general liaison with World Bank and U.N. Organization
    • To keep a close liaison with International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) based in Paris, France and other dams related member countries organizations.

 

Information regarding the participation in Nation/International Conferences/Seminars/ Workshops

Pakistan has remained an active member of ICOLD since 1952. In this context, annual subscription fee is also being paid regularly to ICOLD Central Office based in Paris, France. The Secretariat of Pakistan National Committee on large Dams (PANCOLD) is located in the Office of Chief Engineering Adviser/Chairman, Federal Flood Commission,          6-Attaturk Avenue, G-5/1, Islamabad.

Every year International Commission on large Dams (ICOLD) organized its annual meeting, whereas Congress is arranged after three years. The last meeting was held at Lucerne, Switzerland. The forthcoming meeting and Congress of ICOLD will be held Kyoto, Japan in June 2012. Attendance of this meeting is absolutely essential under Cabinet Division Policy U.O. No.1(637)/88 Min-II dated September 11, 2003. The participation in the annual meeting of ICOLD gives an opportunity to the Water Resources Management Professionals from the ICOLD member countries including Pakistan to exchange information and knowledge on the latest development worldwide in the field of Dam Engineering, Flood Control, Dams Sedimentation and related problems being faced b member countries and the rest of the world.

List of PANCOLD Members is attached at Annexure-I. In addition to the foregoing, new PANCOLD Sub-Committees are proposed as Annexure-II which are under finalization process. PANCOLD keeps close liaison with all National Committees of all member countries of ICOLD.
