The challenges that are faced by Pakistan are characterized by: climatic change, increasing rural and urban wastes, air and water pollution and accelerated consumption of non-renewable resources. These require complex but sustainable solutions that are technically feasible, economically viable, environmentally responsible and socially acceptable. We need to adopt approaches that will integrate multiple sources and numerous impacts to impart on land, water and air resources in an interaction that produces food and supports economic viability for the country in a sustainable manner.
It is my firm belief that a strong resolve towards taking concrete steps and ensuring sustainability of irrigation and drainage infrastructure is the key towards Pakistan’s socioeconomic development and absolutely essential for providing a better future to our nation.
